Four of our pupils are currently working towards their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award. As part of the award they have to complete a two day outdoor expedition, including an overnight camp. The pupils will be fully responsible for all aspects of the expedition including route and equipment planning, navigation, cooking meals and setting up camp.
This week we went for a short introductory hike in the Pentland Hills. An optimistic forecast was not matched by the actual weather encountered and strong winds eventually forced a strategic retreat. However it still gave our pupils plenty to think about in preparing for their upcoming expedition. They will undertake a practice expedition in April with the “qualifying” expedition in June.
