This autumn we plan to build a bespoke rustic shelter for use by pupils in the grounds of the school. During inclement weather, being unable to go outdoors can be very frustrating. Our school is very small and pupils like to be able to have their own space to chat and basically not be “supervised” for a short time. A shelter will satisfy a need expressed by the pupils.
The intended shelter will be built using local Scottish hardwoods and to provide character the frame will be stripped of bark, sanded, shaped and bolted together to create a beautiful structure of maximum strength and character providing a “one off” handmade shelter.
Pupils have been involved in the design of the shelter and they will be able to use and develop their craft and design skills to help in the final construction.
