Slow down, you’re going too fast

Recently our pupils in computing have been enjoying playing with Scalextric in class.  It was playing with a purpose though, utilising a number of BBC Micro:bits and infrared beam detectors to simulate roadside speed detectors.  Pupils developed code using Microsoft’s MakeCode blocks editor to run all aspects of the detection system including speed detection and readouts, happy/frowny face displays and logging speed data.  This called upon a range of conceptual and coding skills from CfE Level 2 up to Higher level, so allowed pupils from across the whole school age range to get involved.
