The fish school for life

Some of our pupils recently attended the inaugural lecture of Catherina Becker, Professor of Neural Development and Regeneration in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.  Professor Becker’s lecture focused on the cutting edge research her and her team are carrying out in exploring and understanding how some vertebrates can regenerate their spinal cord after injury, and how this might translate to spinal injuries in humans beings.

Both the pupils and the staff found the lecture very interesting and entertaining.  It particularly related to parts of the National 4, National 5 and Higher Biology curriculums, and our pupils studying these courses will have benefited hugely from hearing about Professor Becker’s research and its real life applications.
